Terrace Hill
Iowa Governor's Mansion
Built in 1869
An early Iowa entrepreneur and one of the Des Moines founding fathers
built this historic mansion, which stands on a high bluff overlooking the
Raccoon River Valley. It is one of the finest examples of Second Empire
architecture in the country. Since 1972, Terrace Hill has been home to Iowa's
governor and family. Part of the structure is available for public tours.
